Supermarket in Nadi Shut Down Due to Food Safety Violations

The Ministry of Health & Medical Services Food Unit has closed a supermarket in Nadi following the discovery of severe food safety violations.
The inspection revealed expired goods, meat with freezer burn and foul odors, improperly functioning freezers, and inadequate cleaning and pest control records.
Additionally, weevils, cockroaches, and other pests were found in storage areas and on shelves.
This closure is part of ongoing Integrated Food Surveillance Activities in the Western Division, aiming to enhance compliance with food safety regulations and raise public awareness.
The Ministry emphasizes the importance of adhering to the Food Safety Act 2003 and Food Safety Regulations 2009 and warns businesses of legal action for non-compliance.
