Suva Rugby Union Chairman Maritino Nemani has reminded club officials that sponsors remain the backbone of rugby, saying the sport cannot survive without strong partnerships.
He thanked the Flour Mills of Fiji for their continued support for Suva Rugby.
Speaking at the sponsorship event, Nemani said discussions around sponsorship must be seen as long-term partnerships that sustain the game.
“When you talk about sponsorship, you are talking about partnership—and partnership builds the foundation for our sustainability in rugby,” he said.
“To run a rugby union as large as Suva costs a lot of money. Without sponsors, we cannot survive. They are the backbone of our existence in rugby.”
“I want to thank FMF today. We have come a long way over the last three years with the relationship we have built,” he said.
He also acknowledged FMF executives including Seini Tikoiwayevo and Sanjay Punja.
Tikoiwayevo said FMF’s partnership with Suva Rugby is focused on community development and youth empowerment.
“It is about supporting grassroots development and guiding our youth towards a better future—away from drugs and towards sport, discipline and opportunity,” she said.
She added that FMF’s support will target youth and women’s rugby, while helping maintain high standards in local competitions.
Meanwhile, Suva Rugby also launched its official website, which will feature player profiles, match statistics, photography and results.
