Suva Taxi Operators Help Police Catch Car Thief

Suva taxi drivers helped police catch a man who tried to steal a car while two children were in the backseat.
The incident happened on Victoria Parade when a 28-year-old woman was in a car accident. She left the key in the ignition while waiting for police.
A man jumped into the car and drove off with the woman’s two daughters in the backseat.
Police contacted local taxi drivers and gave them details about the stolen vehicle. The taxi drivers used their radios to spread the information.
The stolen car stopped at Rewa Street to let the children out,a taxi driver stopped the car, allowing police to catch up and arrest the thief.
The suspect tried to fight police, injuring four officers. He is now in police custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, thanked the taxi drivers for their quick help.
He said they would be recognized by police for their assistance.
