Taiwan and Tuvalu Strengthen Partnership During Ministerial Visit

Taiwan and Tuvalu have reaffirmed their close friendship and shared commitment to democratic values during an official visit by Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung to Tuvalu.
Minister Lin is visiting Tuvalu as a presidential envoy and attended a state banquet hosted by Tuvalu’s Prime Minister Feleti Teo, where both leaders reflected on the growing partnership between the two nations.
During the visit, the two sides highlighted several key areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening economic and infrastructure ties.
One major development was the signing of an agreement to avoid double taxation, a move expected to encourage stronger trade relations and create opportunities for increased Taiwanese investment in Tuvalu.
Taiwan also announced a donation to support the maintenance costs of Tuvalu’s first undersea telecommunications cable, known as “Vaka.” The cable plays a vital role in ensuring reliable and resilient communications for the island nation.
Minister Lin expressed appreciation for Tuvalu’s long-standing support for Taiwan’s participation in the international community, noting that the relationship between the two countries continues to grow through mutual respect and cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and working together on future initiatives that benefit the people of both Taiwan and Tuvalu.
