The Government of Taiwan, through its Taipei Trade Office in Fiji, has donated Solar Home Unit Systems valued at USD 100,000 to the Fijian Government to support rural electrification in remote communities.
The donation was officially handed over in Suva by Taipei Trade Office Representative Ambassador Joseph Chow and received by Mr. Moape Rokosuka, Head of Finance and Cooperation Service from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The systems, bearing the message “Love from Taiwan,” will bring clean and reliable electricity to Naviavia Village in Wailevu West, Cakaudrove—home to 350 people—and to Saint Paul Primary School, which serves 80 students.
Representative Chow said the initiative symbolizes solidarity between Taiwan and Fiji, especially as members of the Blue Pacific Continent facing shared challenges like climate change and energy insecurity.
“This donation symbolizes a shared commitment to promoting clean, affordable, and sustainable energy for all Pacific communities,” Chow said.
He also commended Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s leadership in the renewable energy space, stating, “Taiwan is proud to stand with Fiji and light up not only homes—but hopes.”
Mr. Rokosuka expressed the Fijian Government’s gratitude, saying the support would make a tangible difference in the lives of people in rural areas.
“The Fijian Government deeply values this expression of goodwill and looks forward to continued collaboration with Taiwan in the renewable energy space,” Rokosuka said.
The donation is also being positioned by Taiwan as a reaffirmation of shared values across the Pacific, including solidarity, mutual assistance, and sustainability.
According to the Taipei Trade Office, the initiative reflects Taiwan’s intention to work closely with Pacific Island nations to address climate change challenges and promote inclusive development.
The Office stated that through this partnership, Taiwan hopes to bring light, dignity, and lasting friendship to Fijian communities and beyond.
