Taiwan has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regional priorities under the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent through a US$2 million development cooperation contribution to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).
The contribution was formally handed over during a ceremony at the Secretariat in Suva on 30 June, attended by Acting Representative of the Taipei Trade Office in Fiji, Jason Chih-Sheng Huang, and Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Deputy Secretary General Esala Nayasi.
Covering the 2024–2025 cooperation period, the funding will support the implementation of the 2050 Strategy, strengthen the institutional capacity of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, provide assistance to Smaller Island States, and advance collaborative initiatives undertaken through the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP).
The contribution also complements Taiwan's ongoing support for the Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner (OPOC) and the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF), helping strengthen regional cooperation and resilience across the Pacific.
Speaking during the handover, Mr Huang said the contribution reflected Taiwan's steadfast partnership with the Pacific Islands Forum and its continued commitment to supporting the Secretariat's work.
He reaffirmed Taiwan's readiness to deepen practical cooperation with Forum members through initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to Pacific peoples while supporting the implementation of regional priorities under the 2050 Strategy.
Deputy Secretary General Esala Nayasi welcomed Taiwan's continued support for Pacific regional priorities and expressed appreciation for the enduring partnership between Taiwan and the Pacific Islands Forum.
Mr Nayasi said Taiwan's contribution reflected a shared commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing the aspirations of the Blue Pacific.
Taiwan has maintained a long-standing partnership with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, supporting regional initiatives that promote sustainable development, climate resilience, ocean governance, institutional capacity and regional solidarity.
The latest contribution underscores Taiwan's ongoing commitment to working alongside Pacific partners to address shared challenges and achieve the vision set out in the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
