Taxi Driver Charged for Dishonestly Obtaining $100 from Car Hire Scam

A 52-year-old taxi driver from Nakasi has been charged by the Fiji Police Force for obtaining financial advantage.

The accused allegedly took $100 from a victim on September 8, 2023, through M-Paisa after the victim saw an ad for car hire on Facebook.

The victim paid a deposit but was unable to contact the driver afterward.

The case was reported to the Consumer Council and then referred to the Criminal Investigation Department.

The accused is in custody and will appear in Nasinu Magistrate Court today at 2:30 pm.
