Telecom Fiji and the Fiji Police Force have signed a landmark agreement to implement the Safe City Project, a major public safety initiative aimed at enhancing security through advanced surveillance and fibre-optic technology.
Under the project, Telecom Fiji will provide high-speed fibre connectivity and install CCTV infrastructure from Suva to Nausori.
All video feeds will be monitored in real time at the Fiji Police Command Centre based at the Central Police Station in Suva.
Telecom Fiji CEO Charles Goundar said the initiative goes beyond technology, focusing on building safer communities.
“This milestone project is more than just technology—it’s about creating safer communities for all Fijians,” Goundar said. “We are proud to partner with the Fiji Police Force in delivering a solution that not only improves public safety but also lays the groundwork for smarter cities in the future.”
Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu welcomed the collaboration, calling it a significant development in modern policing.
“With real-time monitoring and broader coverage, we will be better equipped to respond to incidents, deter criminal activity, and keep our people safe,” Tudravu said.
“Our partnership with Telecom Fiji reflects our commitment to using innovation for the protection of our citizens.”
The Suva-Nausori corridor will serve as a pilot zone for the Safe City concept, which is expected to expand across the country in future phases.
