Temple Vandalism Suspect Referred for Psychiatric Evaluation

The man accused of vandalising sacred idols at the Samabula Shiv Mandir has been referred for psychiatric assessment following his first court appearance today.
Samuela Tawase, 28, appeared before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad at the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.
The matter has now been transferred to the Chief Magistrate for further orders, including arrangements for a formal mental health evaluation.
Tawase is facing charges related to the alleged sacrilege incident that shocked the nation and sparked widespread condemnation from community leaders, religious groups, and government officials.
The case is expected to return to court following the outcome of the psychiatric assessment.
