Fiji’s Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua, has praised the commitment and resourcefulness of Fijian peacekeepers maintaining critical assets at Camp Ziouani, under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

During a visit to the Fijian Contingent-Owned Equipment (COE) Workshop, Tikoduadua was briefed on the maintenance and servicing of key operational vehicles, particularly the Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles, which were acquired through Fiji’s Vuvale Partnership with Australia.

“These Bushmasters have greatly enhanced the mobility, protection, and operational effectiveness of our troops in the complex environment of the Golan,” Tikoduadua said.

He highlighted the challenges faced by personnel, including the procurement of spare parts and specialist maintenance, noting the ingenuity of Fijian mechanics and logistics officers who often sustain operations with limited resources.

Under UN regulations, countries like Fiji that supply their own vehicles and support equipment to peacekeeping missions are eligible for COE reimbursements. However, Tikoduadua stressed that this financial support depends heavily on proper equipment maintenance and robust reporting systems.

“This workshop is crucial not just for mechanical upkeep, but for ensuring accountability, compliance, and the long-term financial sustainability of Fiji’s peacekeeping programme,” he said.

Tikoduadua concluded by commending the engineers, mechanics, and logistics officers, describing their work as “vital to the safety, efficiency, and reputation” of Fiji’s contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.
