Tongan Royals Arrive for Historic State Visit to Fiji

Fiji is today welcoming Their Majesties, King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u of the Kingdom of Tonga, for a historic State Visit from Tuesday, 8 July to Saturday, 12 July 2025.

The official programme begins at the State House with a 100-men Guard of Honour to His Majesty King Tupou VI, followed by a traditional welcoming ceremony for both Their Majesties.

As part of the State House engagements, His Majesty will pay a courtesy call to the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere*. The first day will conclude with a formal State Banquet.

Later this week, Their Majesties will travel to Lakeba, Lau, to attend the installation ceremony of Ratu Tevita Lutunauga Kapaiwai Uluilakeba Mara as the Turaga Tui Nayau, Sau ni Vanua ko Lau and Tui Lau, on Thursday, 10 July. Their presence at the ceremony highlights the longstanding cultural and ancestral links between Tonga and the Lau Group of Fiji.

This State Visit marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties, promoting regional unity, and enhancing collaboration on shared priorities such as climate change, economic resilience, and sustainable development.

Their Majesties are scheduled to return to the Kingdom of Tonga on Saturday, 12 July 2025.
