Fiji's Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, concluded his recent visit to the United States without securing a meeting with President Donald Trump, despite earlier stating to FijiLive News that he expects to meet the US president.

Prior to his departure, Rabuka had expressed optimism about discussing key issues directly with the U.S. president.

PM Rabuka’s calls for the US to reconsider leaving the Paris Accord and reinstating USAID have also been largely ignored by the Trump Administration.

During his time in Washington, Prime Minister Rabuka met with U.S. Congressman Ed Case and Diane Farrell, the U.S. Acting Under Secretary of State for International Trade.

Concurrently, Fiji's Minister for Education and SODELPA Leader, Aseri Radrodro, along with Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu, has called for a halt to the deportation of Fijian migrants residing illegally in the U.S., asking the coalition government to lobby Trump to consider their close support of Israel.

These appeals have, thus far, been ignored by the Trump administration.

Trump, meanwhile, continues to make sweeping changes to the US government and policies and continues to meet with world leaders.

This includes a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has landed in the US for a scheduled meeting with President Trump.
