Tudravu warns new Police recruits to meet discipline standards or leave

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has issued a firm warning to 185 new police recruits that those who fail to meet the Fiji Police Force's standards of discipline will not make it through their six-month training.

Speaking at the opening of the Batch 70 Basic Recruit Course at the Fiji Police Academy yesterday, Tudravu stressed that discipline would be non-negotiable and recruits who could not meet the required standards could leave.

He said the Force was serious about removing unsuitable recruits during the training period to ensure that only those who demonstrated the required discipline, commitment and qualities successfully graduated.

Tudravu said he expected the best from the recruits, with future Police officers needing to be physically and mentally capable of dealing with the challenges they would face on the frontline.

He also reminded the recruits that Police training was not limited to acquiring technical knowledge and policing skills.

According to Tudravu, the six-month programme would also focus on developing character, leadership qualities and a community-focused mindset needed to effectively serve the people of Fiji and Tuvalu.

The Police Commissioner also welcomed 14 recruits from Tuvalu and encouraged them to consider the Fiji Police Academy their home for the duration of their training.

He reminded all recruits that their behaviour, whether on or off duty, must reflect the standards, mission and vision of the Police Force.

Tudravu stressed that the way officers communicate with people, carry out their duties and conduct themselves in their personal lives must be consistent with the responsibilities that come with wearing the Police uniform.

The Batch 70 Basic Recruit Course will run for six months and is scheduled to conclude on February 12, 2027.
