Two senior officers of the Fiji Police Force have been awarded medals by the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in recognition of their service while on peacekeeping duties.

Superintendent of Police Reshmi Singh and Superintendent of Police Serupepeli Nakita received their UNISFA medals during the Pakistan Battalion Medal Parade held in Todach, Abyei, on 12 January 2026.

The medals were presented by the Officer-in-Charge and Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander, Ameer Muhammad Umrani, and the Officer-in-Charge, Chief of Mission Support, Salim Chehab.

The ceremony was attended by UN Police personnel, Military Observers, staff officers and members of the Pakistan Battalion. The two Fijian officers stood alongside their international counterparts as they received their medals in recognition of their contribution to peacekeeping operations in the region.

UNISFA is mandated to monitor and maintain security in the Abyei area, a disputed region between Sudan and South Sudan.
