Two Individuals to Appear in Court for Alleged Financial Crimes

Two individuals will appear at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today, facing charges related to alleged financial deception and possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The first accused, a 25-year-old man from Nadi, has been investigated for two separate cases.

In the first case, he is alleged to have obtained $3,000 from a victim in August 2023 as part of an investment opportunity advertised on Facebook.

When the victim failed to receive any returns, she realized it was a scam and reported the matter to Tavua Police.

The accused has been charged by the Fiji Police Cyber Task Force with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and one count of Possession of Property Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime.

In the second case, the same accused allegedly dishonestly obtained $1,000 in April 2023 through a similar scheme.

After repeated failed attempts to contact him, the victim filed a report at Nasinu Police Station.

As a result, he faces an additional count of Obtaining Financial Advantage and a count of Possession of Property Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old woman from Lautoka has also been charged in a separate case.

She allegedly obtained $200 in November 2022 from a victim who had sent the money for a taxi permit.

After unsuccessful attempts to reach her, the victim lodged a report at Lautoka Police Station.

She has been charged with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage and one count of Possession of Property Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime.

Both accused will be produced in court today.
