In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Ukraine launched a series of drone attacks targeting Russian military airbases deep within Russian territory.

According to Ukrainian officials, the strikes damaged or destroyed over 40 aircraft, including long-range bombers, in what is being described as one of the most extensive operations since the war began.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that multiple airfields across five regions were targeted, resulting in several aircraft catching fire.

These attacks come just hours before scheduled peace talks between Ukraine and Russia are set to commence in Istanbul.

The talks aim to negotiate a ceasefire and address other critical issues stemming from the conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the drone strikes were a direct response to recent Russian offensives and emphasized Ukraine's commitment to defending its sovereignty.

Despite the heightened military actions, both Ukrainian and Russian delegations have arrived in Istanbul, signaling a willingness to engage in dialogue.

The international community watches closely as these developments unfold, hoping that the upcoming negotiations will pave the way for a de-escalation of hostilities and a path toward lasting peace.
