Unity Fiji has raised concerns over what it says is fake news and misinformation being circulated through a social media account allegedly operating under the name Ratu Ilaisa Sema, after a series of politically charged posts began attracting attention online.

The account has recently shared several controversial claims involving Fiji political figures, including false reports suggesting Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka would step down as People’s Alliance Party leader, claims involving Unity Fiji figures, and posts linking political personalities to alleged party movements and leadership discussions.

One post falsely claimed that aspiring politician and political commentator Abel Camillo had thanked Unity Fiji leader Savenaca Narube for a “second chance” to serve Fiji and suggested he had joined the party.

However, Unity Fiji publicly rejected the claim.

In a statement shared on its official platform, the party categorically denied that Mr Camillo is a member of Unity Fiji and urged the public to rely only on official communication to avoid misinformation.

Mr Camillo also confirmed to Duavata News that the claims were false.

“Fake news brother, you would hear it from me first,” said Camillo.

Another widely circulated post also referenced comments allegedly tied to Seremaia Tuiteci.

Mr Tuiteci later publicly distanced himself from the fake content, clarifying that he had not joined Unity Fiji and had not been interviewed by any media organization regarding political ambitions.

The growing spread of politically themed misinformation has sparked concern online, particularly as Fiji heads toward an increasingly active political period.

The incident highlights the risks of anonymous or misleading social media accounts presenting false political narratives that can quickly create confusion and misinformation among the public.

Unity Fiji has since encouraged Fijians to verify information through official party channels and credible media sources before sharing political claims online.
