USP Seemingly Chickens Out of National Moot Competition
FIJI NEWS

Drama is unfolding at the University of the South Pacific after the institution has seemingly pulled out of the 2025 National Moot Court Competition, prompting the cancellation of the event.
Information sent to us alleges that organisers were told that USP had withdrawn after receiving a message said to be from the USPLSA executive committee. The message claimed the withdrawal was a committee decision.
However, in a twist, some members of the executive committee have contacted Duavata News, insisting they were not consulted and had no knowledge of such a decision being made.
The Moot Competition was originally initiated by USP last year, but in a surprising outcome, the university lost both of its pool matches and was knocked out early in the tournament.
The Fiji National University went on to win the competition.
The cancellation of this year’s event has left law students from across the country disappointed, with many describing it as a setback for building a national culture of courtroom advocacy and legal debate.
We have sent questions to the University.
