Health authorities in Victoria have issued a public warning following the confirmation of a new measles case in Melbourne.

The infected individual was contagious in the Cranbourne area during late December, visiting various locations such as supermarkets, airports, and bakeries.

This case is the fourth linked to recent travel from South-East Asia, increasing the total number of cases in Victoria to 17 since January 2024.

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that can lead to serious complications like pneumonia and brain inflammation.

Symptoms include rashes and high fevers.

People who visited the identified exposure sites are advised to watch for symptoms, seek medical attention, wear masks, and isolate if necessary.

This alert follows a similar warning recently issued in New South Wales.
