Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo has stepped in to support the Navatu Secondary School U19 rugby side, providing much-needed sporting gear as the Cakaudrove team prepares to face Lelean Memorial School in the Deans U19 final today.

The Navatu side has defied expectations with its remarkable run to the final, but its extended stay in Suva has also brought unexpected challenges.

The team had initially travelled to the capital expecting to remain for just over a week. Now heading into its third week away from home, relatives and members of the Cakaudrove community have rallied around the players to help keep them going.

Vosarogo said the team management approached him for assistance with new boots, headgear, tights, tapes and other equipment needed by the players.

He responded by providing the requested gear, which was handed over during a visit to the team last night.

Vosarogo was joined by members of his Queen Victoria School Class of 1993, who visited their former classmate and current Navatu Secondary School Principal Kiniviliame Naciqa to show their support for the school and its players.

“Whatever happens on the field today, these young men have already made their school, their families and Cakaudrove proud,” Vosarogo said.

“They have come further than many expected. Now they have one more game.”

Navatu will face Lelean in the Deans U19 final today.
