Hundreds of mothers at CWM maternity units were left without access to clean water after a significant outage in the water supply disrupted services. The shortage has caused widespread concern, particularly in the maternity wards where expectant and new mothers rely on a steady supply of water for both medical and personal use.
A senior nurse at one of the maternity units, who spoke to us about the issue, shared that the water outage has been a persistent challenge for some time. She also expressed her gratitude for Wai Fiji, as their assistance arrived at the perfect time.
“I’m very so thankful, it came at the right time when we needed it especially for our mothers. I thank you and your group for coming in and delivering it this fast.”
In response to the crisis, local water supplier, Wai Fiji, has stepped in to provide urgent assistance. The company has mobilized its resources to deliver clean drinking water supplies directly to the affected units to ensure the continued care of the mothers and their newborns. Wai Fiji is committed to supporting our communities, making sure that the maternity units are not without the water they urgently need.
While delivering the first donation, Wai Fiji Arnold Chanel emphasized on the company’s committed dedication to community welfare.
“When we heard about the situation, we couldn’t stand by. No mother or baby should have to endure such hardship. Ensuring they have access to clean, safe drinking water is our way of showing we care. These mothers are raising the future of our nation, and they deserve all the support we can offer.”
He urged the importance of collective approach to address such issues.
“As a community, it is our duty to come together and respond to crises like this, particularly when the wellbeing of mothers and newborns is at stake. Their health is not just their own—it’s the foundation of our society’s future.”
The CEO assured ongoing support, emphasizing that Wai Fiji would remain dedicated to helping mothers in maternity ward.
For now, the mothers and healthcare workers in the maternity units can breathe a sigh of relief, thanks to the quick intervention by Wai Fiji, though the larger issue of ongoing water supply stability remains a critical concern.
