The People’s Alliance Party has issued a strong statement warning drug traffickers and organised crime groups that intensified enforcement and major recent seizures show authorities are closing in on illegal drug networks across the country.

In a statement released by General Secretary Sila Balawa, the party said recent large-scale drug seizures should serve as a “clear and final warning” to those involved in drug trafficking and distribution.

According to police statistics cited by the party, between 2022 and 2025 authorities seized an estimated $3.6 billion worth of methamphetamine and $91.9 million worth of cocaine, not including the latest cocaine seizure in Vatia valued at close to $3 billion. During the same period, $197.5 million worth of marijuana was also seized. Altogether, the total value of drugs seized between 2022 and 2025 is estimated at about $3.9 billion.

The figures were presented through Police data shared at the National Pastoral Response to Drugs forum organised by the Fiji Council of Churches, highlighting what the party described as the growing scale and seriousness of the drug threat facing the country.

The data also shows that between 2021 and 2025, a total of 7,710 drug-related cases were recorded. Of these, 94 percent involved men and 6 percent involved women. By ethnicity, the figures show 6,123 cases involving iTaukei, 1,611 involving Indo-Fijians, with the remainder involving other communities. Reported cases peaked in 2024 with 2,035 cases, the highest yearly total in the period.

The party said the seizures and arrests are the result of deliberate government policy, intelligence-led policing, and cooperation with regional and international partners. It credited the Coalition Government and law enforcement agencies for what it described as sustained and strategic operations.

The People’s Alliance Party also commended the Fiji Police Force for its ongoing efforts, stating that officers are working methodically to identify and prosecute those involved in drug crimes.

The statement said the government remains committed to backing law enforcement and warned that those who continue to engage in drug-related activity should expect arrest and prosecution, adding that the party will continue to support strong measures aimed at protecting families and communities.
