The Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Maritino Nemani, has called on the Ministry’s senior management team to embrace teamwork, humility, and accountability in delivering high-quality public services.
Speaking during the Ministry’s mid-term review of its annual plan, Nemani stressed that success in public service depends on collective effort rather than individual recognition.
“Success is never about ‘I’ or ‘me.’ It is about ‘we’ and ‘us.’ When we work together with dedication and humility, we achieve meaningful results,” he said.
Nemani emphasised the importance of kindness, respect, and strong teamwork within the Ministry, noting that no individual is above another. He also called for bold leadership to address bureaucratic inefficiencies and ensure taxpayer funds are used effectively.
“If a system is not working, we must review it and improve it. Our focus must always be on service delivery and impact,” he said.
He highlighted the value of regular strategic reviews and encouraged honest self-assessment to help realign priorities and strengthen outcomes. Nemani also underscored the need for excellent customer service and government support for businesses, describing them as key partners in national development.

Customer service and diplomacy were identified as vital components of public engagement, with the Permanent Secretary reminding staff that every interaction reflects not only on the Ministry but on the government as a whole.
“Each of us represents this institution. Excellence in customer service and professionalism in our conduct must be non-negotiable,” he said.
Nemani reaffirmed his commitment to delivering results for the public, saying the Ministry’s focus remains firmly on advancing its strategic goals and serving people with integrity.
“Winning means delivering with integrity, working together, and serving our people with excellence,” he added.
