Christmas Eve in Fiji is expected to be wet and stormy as heavy rain continues across parts of the country.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain warning for several areas, urging residents to stay vigilant.

Regions under the warning include Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, interior of Ra, Tailevu North, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Kadavu, Lomaiviti, and the Southern Lau group.

The weather office reports that an active trough of low pressure is lingering over Fiji, bringing clouds and persistent rain.

This could result in localized heavy downpours, increasing the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents near streams and riverbanks are particularly vulnerable, with potential flooding of roads, homes, and properties.
