Brazilian police have arrested a woman facing charges of triple homicide after several family members were poisoned by an arsenic-laced Christmas cake.
Three women died and three others fell ill after eating the cake during a family gathering on December 23 in Torres.
Police identified the suspect as the daughter-in-law of the woman who prepared the cake.
High levels of arsenic were found in the victims' blood, the remaining cake, and the flour used.
Six relatives were hospitalized, and two sisters, aged 58 and 65, and a 43-year-old daughter died.
The third sister, aged 61, who made the cake, is in stable condition.
The suspect researched arsenic online before the incident. Authorities found out-of-date food items in her house.
Police are investigating the motive, noting the family's "harmonious" relationship but long standing "differences."
Arsenic, a highly toxic element, was found in lethal concentrations in the victims.
The investigation continues.
