Woman Charged for Allegedly Scamming Taxi Driver

A woman has been charged by the Fiji Police Cyber Task Force for allegedly scamming a taxi driver.

The investigation revealed that on September 28, 2023, the accused hired the victim's taxi and was required to pay a fare of $15 upon reaching her destination.

She allegedly informed the driver that she had sent $50 via mobile money transfer and requested $20 as change.

However, the next day, the driver discovered that he had received a fake message and his balance remained unchanged. He then reported the matter to the Valelevu Police Station.

The accused has been charged with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage and one count of Making Off Without Payment.

She will be produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
