Women from Vunuku, Maloku, and Naroi gathered today in Naroi for a transformative business training session aimed at turning natural resources into value-added products.
The workshop, led by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), focused on building skills in bookkeeping, marketing, branding, inventory management, and savings strategies.
Participants also engaged in group discussions, fostering collaboration and exchanging insights.
Mrs. Kalo Leba, President of the Maloku Women’s Group, expressed gratitude for the initiative.
“This workshop has broadened our knowledge and given us confidence to explore new opportunities for our products. We now understand how to plan better and grow our initiatives,” she said.
The Maloku Women’s Group, involved in community projects like a cooperative, beekeeping, and crab breeding, aims to use the training to expand and manage their ventures effectively.
JICA volunteer Akemi Nagahara highlighted the importance of leveraging local resources to boost income, teaching women key business concepts, product development, and marketing strategies for rural enterprises.
Additionally, the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) held a session on gender-based violence (GBV), empowering participants to protect their rights, while the Fiji Police shared safety tips and survivor support strategies.
This holistic approach equips women with essential business tools and social awareness, paving the way for sustainable development in their communities.
