Construction has begun on a $1.3 million suspension bridge in the chiefly village of Bua, Lomanikoro.
According to the Fiji Roads Authority post, the bridge will benefit over 800 people and directly serve the villages of Dalomo, Bua Lomanikoro, Tiliva, and nearby communities.
While officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau said improved infrastructure is essential to enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities.
“This project is more than just steel and concrete — it represents a bridge of hope, progress, and connection for the people it will serve,” he said.
The first phase, which involves the construction of bridge towers on both sides of the river, is expected to be completed by July 2025.
The second phase will begin in August and is projected to be completed by December.
