SPCA Fiji Takes Desexing Services to Naqara Village

SPCA Fiji has launched its final quarter community outreach programme with a veterinary clinic in Naqara Village, Naitasiri, providing desexing and basic animal care services to local pet owners.

The outreach team successfully desexed 18 dogs, including three pregnant dogs, as well as one pregnant cat during the visit.

Some dogs also received donated flea treatment as part of the animal health services provided by the team.

SPCA Fiji said desexing is important in controlling the number of unwanted animals and can help reduce problems associated with roaming, dog fights and dog bites within communities.

The organisation thanked Peace Corps Fiji and the Turaga ni Koro for supporting the team with village arrangements, protocols and hospitality.

SPCA Fiji also acknowledged the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways for providing a grant to support the desexing programme and enable the organisation to take its services directly into communities.

The Naqara clinic was organised specifically for the village and was not publicly advertised.

SPCA Fiji said it will continue conducting outreach clinics between Suva and Nausori throughout October and November, with further venues and dates to be announced.
