Dr Shalendra Prasad Named New CEO of Sugar Research Institute of Fiji

The Sugar Research Institute of Fiji (SRIF) has appointed agricultural research specialist Dr Shalendra Prasad as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The appointment was announced by the SRIF Board, chaired by Stanley Raniga, with the institute saying Dr Prasad brings more than three decades of experience in agricultural research and development.

Dr Prasad previously served as Director of Research and Agricultural Scientific Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways.

He holds a PhD in Horticulture from the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia and has experience in research management, policy development, crop production, technology transfer and stakeholder engagement.

Throughout his career, Dr Prasad has worked with farmers, researchers, Government agencies, academic institutions and development partners.

His appointment is expected to strengthen SRIF’s work in sugarcane research, productivity improvement, technology transfer and sustainable farming, while also supporting greater collaboration across the sugar industry.

SRIF Chairman Stanley Raniga welcomed Dr Prasad to the institute and wished him success in his new position.

The Board said it was confident Dr Prasad’s experience and leadership would strengthen SRIF’s contribution to the development and long-term sustainability of Fiji’s sugar industry.
