President Ratu Naiqama Joins World Leaders at UN General Assembly

Fiji’s Head of State, President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, has joined world leaders and representatives at the opening of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.

President Ratu Naiqama attended the opening session at the United Nations Headquarters, where global leaders are meeting to discuss major international issues, including peace and security, climate change, sustainable development and international cooperation.

The President was accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Sakiasi Ditoka, Permanent Secretary Solo Mara, Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Filipo Tarakinikini, Minister for Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya, and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States Ratu Ilisoni Vuidreketi.

The UN General Assembly is the organisation’s principal deliberative and policymaking body, providing all 193 member states with an equal platform to address global challenges and promote international cooperation.

Fiji’s participation at the high-level gathering provides an opportunity for the country to engage with international partners and highlight issues of importance to Fiji and the Pacific region.
