PNG Gang OBT Classified as Domestic Terrorist Organisation

Papua New Guinea has classified the notorious Operation Brukim Tulait (OBT) gang as a domestic terrorist organisation.

The gang, which has long been associated with Lae, is known for violent nighttime robberies and has increasingly gained attention in other parts of the country.

Morobe Governor Rainbo Paita confirmed the classification, saying the move reflects growing concern over the gang’s activities.

However, Paita said long-term efforts to tackle gang violence must also focus on providing young people with better opportunities and pathways away from crime.

The classification is expected to strengthen the government’s response to OBT as authorities work to address criminal activity and improve community safety.
