Fijians urged to exercise caution when travelling to Indonesia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade is advising Fijian nationals and other travellers planning to travel to or transit through Indonesia, particularly Jakarta, to exercise caution following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait.

The ministry says volcanic ash has affected parts of western Indonesia, causing significant disruptions to air travel.

Flights at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and other airports have reportedly been affected by cancellations, delays and diversions.

With the situation continuing to develop, travellers are being warned that further changes to flight schedules may occur.

Fijians and other travellers are advised to check their flight status directly with their airline before leaving for the airport.

Travellers should also follow instructions and updates issued by Indonesian authorities and airport operators.

The ministry is advising passengers not to travel to the airport unless their flight has been confirmed, as ongoing disruptions have contributed to congestion and operational challenges.

Fijian nationals requiring consular assistance while in Indonesia are encouraged to contact the Fiji Embassy in Jakarta.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade says it will continue monitoring the situation and provide further travel advice if necessary.
