Trump: Vote or ‘Go to Hell’

U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Republican supporters to turn out for the November midterm elections, telling a crowd that those who do not vote will “go to hell.”

Trump made the remark while addressing supporters on the final night of the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas on September 10.

After leading the crowd in a pledge to vote, Trump said: “You know what happens if you don’t vote? You go to hell.”

He then encouraged supporters to ensure their family members and friends also cast their ballots.

The remarks came as Trump stepped up efforts to mobilise the Republican base ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress.

A day earlier, Trump proposed a $5,000 payment to adult U.S. citizens if Republicans retain control of Congress. The proposal has raised questions over its cost, funding and the congressional approval that would be required.

Trump’s “go to hell” remark has since attracted widespread attention as campaigning intensifies ahead of the midterm.
