Students Explore Journalism at USP Open Day

The University of the South Pacific’s Journalism booth attracted strong interest during USP Open Day as students got a chance to experience what life is like in the media industry.

Visitors explored displays of student work, graduate success stories and journalism projects while learning about the programme from current students.

One of the highlights was an interactive interview activity where visiting students took part in mock interviews and reporting exercises. Many also had the opportunity to try professional video cameras and learn how news stories are recorded and produced.

Journalism students explained that the programme teaches skills such as news writing, interviewing, photography, video production, digital storytelling and media ethics.

Students visiting the booth said they enjoyed the hands-on activities, which gave them a better understanding of what journalists do and the skills needed to work in the media industry.

Current students said journalism is about more than writing stories. It is about finding facts, telling important stories and sharing information that matters to communities.

USP Open Day provided prospective students with an opportunity to explore different study options and learn more about university life.
