Digitaki Calls for Manumanunitoga’s Removal
Laiisa Digitaki has called for Paula Manumanunitoga to be removed through the Fijian Teachers Association’s disciplinary process following reports of profanity, racial hostility and threats.
In a statement, Digitaki urged the association’s President and Executive Board to urgently initiate the process, saying teachers deserve leadership that reflects the dignity and responsibility of their profession.
Digitaki, whose late father was a teacher and an active FTA member, said she grew up attending association events and remembered the respect shown by members and officials.
“Conversations had substance. Even disagreements had manners,” she said.
She expressed anger over the reported conduct of someone entrusted to represent teachers, questioning the example being set.
As an iTaukei woman, Digitaki said chiefs, culture and the vanua should never be used to excuse threats against fellow citizens.
“You do not honour our chiefs by threatening people. And nobody should have to defend their right to belong in their own country,” she said.
Digitaki also called on FTA members to speak up and demand better leadership from their association.
She said Manumanunitoga should be replaced by someone who leads with respect and embraces a Fiji where everyone belongs.
“Our children are watching. Our teachers deserve better. And Fiji has had enough of this divisive behaviour,” she said.
