Fiji and New Zealand Police Strengthen Partnership Against Organised Crime
The Fiji Police Force and New Zealand Police are exploring a new community policing partnership aimed at strengthening resilience against organised crime.
The initiative is based on New Zealand Police’s Resilience to Organised Crime in Communities (ROCC) approach, which works alongside communities to reduce vulnerability, strengthen local resilience and support community-led solutions.
The discussions were held between Pacific Harm Reduction Programme Manager John O’Keefe, senior New Zealand Police officials and Fiji Police senior command, led by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu.
The partnership will focus on identifying emerging challenges and vulnerabilities while recognising existing community strengths, protective factors and priorities.
Both police forces also aim to strengthen understanding of current community responses and initiatives.
The Fiji Police Force said it welcomed the opportunity to work with New Zealand Police on the new approach and strengthen efforts to reduce the harm caused by organised crime in communities.
