Prepare for Work Before Graduation, Says Nemani
Students should begin preparing for employment before completing their studies, says Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Maritino Nemani.
His message comes as the Ministry’s National Employment Centre provides career guidance and employment assistance at the Fiji National University Careers Fair at Derrick Campus in Samabula.
The two-day fair, which concludes today, gives students, graduates and job seekers an opportunity to explore career pathways, seek professional advice and connect with prospective employers.
Nemani said the transition from education to employment could be challenging, particularly for young people seeking their first job.
“Completing your education is an important achievement, but finding the right employment opportunity is equally important,” he said.
“We want our young people to know that support is available to help them take that next step with confidence.”
He encouraged students to understand the labour market, explore career opportunities and develop the skills employers need while still studying.
“Students should not wait until graduation to start thinking about employment.”
Nemani said the NEC helps bridge the gap between education and employment through career counselling, employment information and guidance on employer expectations.
He said the Ministry’s role extended beyond helping people find jobs to supporting informed career decisions that could provide long-term opportunities for young people and their families.
The NEC booth is open at the C-Block Carpark, Derrick Campus, Samabula, until 4pm today.
