Rotuma Leaders Explore Innovation Opportunities at Fiji Innovation Hub

Two traditional leaders from Rotuma have visited the Fiji Innovation Hub to explore how innovation, technology and entrepreneurship can help address challenges and create new opportunities for the island community.

The delegation included Gagaj Manav and Gagaj Eratauaf, together with Rotuma District Officer Luke Savu and Annie Elizabeth Gukisuva, one of the facilitators of the recent Rotuma Hackathon.

The visit follows the Financial Inclusion Maritime Expo held in Rotuma on July 7 and 8, 2026, which featured the island’s first-ever Hackathon.

The Hackathon, delivered through the Fiji Innovation Hub, brought together 24 participants organised into six teams to develop technology-based solutions to challenges facing Rotuma.

During their visit, the delegation toured the Innovation Hub and learned more about its role in supporting innovators, entrepreneurs and communities to turn ideas into practical solutions.

Discussions also focused on how innovation and entrepreneurship could be used to address local challenges while creating new opportunities for the Rotuman community.

The visit highlights efforts to strengthen connections between Fiji’s outer islands and national innovation initiatives, while encouraging greater participation in technology, entrepreneurship and community-driven development.
