TLTB Develops Roadmap for Landowners’ Financial Institution
The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) is developing a roadmap for a potential financial institution aimed at strengthening the financial inclusion and long-term economic empowerment of iTaukei landowners.
A Landowners Financial Institution Roadmap Workshop was held at Yatu Lau Lagoon Resort in Pacific Harbour on September 28, bringing together landowner representatives, Qelemaroroi Holdings Pte Limited (QHL), TLTB representatives and financial-sector experts.
The discussions focused on the proposed institution’s commercial viability, governance, regulatory requirements, risk management, capital, liquidity and operational systems.
The International Finance Corporation and Reserve Bank of Fiji provided international and regulatory perspectives during the workshop.
TLTB said any move towards a regulated financial institution would need to be carefully phased, with each stage supported by feasibility studies, strong governance, adequate capital and regulatory compliance.
The workshop outcomes will now be consolidated into a draft roadmap for consideration by the QHL Board and TLTB Board of Trustees.
