FCCC Extends Temporary Taxi Fare Adjustment

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has extended the temporary adjustment to regulated taxi fare drop charges for another six months.

The adjustment, which was due to expire on 30 September 2026, will now remain in effect until 31 March 2027 following a review of submissions from taxi associations and individual operators.

FCCC said it considered verified industry cost information, recent fuel price movements and forecasts of possible increases in fuel costs.

Although some taxi operators requested further fare increases, FCCC said its assessment did not support an increase at this stage.

Taxi operators will therefore not need to recalibrate their meters to the previous drop charge during the extended period.

FCCC said the decision aims to balance the sustainability of taxi services with affordability for consumers.

The regulator will continue monitoring fuel prices and industry conditions and may reassess the arrangement if circumstances change.
