Nemani Urges Drivers to Follow Basic Road Rules

Accident Compensation Commission Fiji Executive Chairman Maritino Nemani is urging motorists to follow basic road safety rules after a head-on collision along the Queens Highway claimed the lives of two 26-year-old men.

The victims included an off-duty police officer and a salesman from Navua.

Nemani says the tragedy highlights the serious consequences of dangerous driving, including overtaking on double lines.

According to preliminary information released by the Fiji Police Force, one of the drivers allegedly overtook several vehicles across double lines before the collision. Police investigations are continuing.

Nemani says road markings, speed limits and traffic regulations are essential safeguards that motorists must obey to protect themselves and other road users.

He says attempting a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre to save a few seconds is not worth risking a human life.

Nemani says the deaths of the two young men are particularly heartbreaking, with their families now left grieving.

He has extended his condolences to the victims’ families, stressing that no amount of compensation can replace a life lost.

Nemani is urging drivers to exercise patience, observe road markings and speed limits, and take personal responsibility for their actions behind the wheel.

He says motorists have a duty to protect themselves, their passengers and everyone sharing the road.
