Tailevu Communities Strengthen Oyster Farming Skills

Communities in Daku Village and nearby Kalili settlement have strengthened their oyster farming skills following a five-day monitoring and training programme.

The programme, held from September 21 to 25, was conducted by the Pearl and Rock Oyster team and focused on constructing and deploying spat collectors.

The practical training will support the expansion of the local oyster farm as it transitions to a longline hanging-basket cultivation system.

The initiative aims to increase production, improve yields and strengthen community ownership of the aquaculture project.

Fisheries officials said the programme will contribute to sustainable oyster farming and create further opportunities for coastal communities in Tailevu.
