Fiji Strengthens Commitment to Sustainable Fisheries
Fiji has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable fisheries and stronger regional ocean governance at the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) Technical Compliance Committee meeting held in Pohnpei.
During the meeting, Fiji highlighted progress in implementing WCPFC conservation and management measures and identified areas where further national capacity building is needed.
The meeting was opened by Federated States of Micronesia President Wesley W. Simina and chaired by Ilkan Na of South Korea.
Discussions also focused on strengthening regional support ahead of the WCPFC’s main decision-making meeting scheduled for December.
Fiji says continued cooperation with Pacific fisheries partners remains important to protecting marine resources, promoting sustainable fishing practices and safeguarding the region’s ocean resources for future generations.
