Government Steps Up Protection for Livestock Farmers
The Government is strengthening measures to protect livestock farmers from stray and free-roaming dog attacks.
Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna said $337,500 was allocated for the Stray Dog Control Management Programme in 2025–2026, resulting in 2,211 dogs being neutered and 88 euthanised following veterinary assessments.
A further $3.4 million was invested in livestock development, including fencing and livestock sheds to reduce farm losses.
Tunabuna said the Government will continue working with farmers, communities and veterinary providers to reduce livestock predation and strengthen farm protection.
