Emergency Water Supplies Delivered to Yasawa Communities
The Government has begun delivering emergency water supplies to communities in the Yasawa Islands facing dry conditions and water shortages.
The MLC Prestige Sea Link arrived in the Yasawa Islands on September 30 as part of an operation led by the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management through the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO).
Water will be delivered to Nabukeru, Tamusua and Yasawa-i-Rara villages, along with Ratu Namasi Memorial Primary School, Yasawa Infant School and Yasawa Nursing Station.
The operation is being coordinated with the Commissioner Western’s Office, Fiji’s Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, and the Water Authority of Fiji.
Authorities say the agencies will continue monitoring conditions and coordinating assistance for communities affected by the ongoing El Niño event.
