Valenitabua Sworn In as Acting Attorney-General

Sevuloni Ratumaiyale Valenitabua has been sworn in as Fiji’s Acting Attorney-General, bringing approximately 29 years of legal experience to the role.

Valenitabua was sworn in by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu at the State House today (27 October 2026).

He has extensive experience in constitutional law, human rights, criminal and civil litigation, and public legal services across Fiji and the Pacific.

His previous roles include Commissioner and Proceedings Commissioner of the Fiji Human Rights Commission, Legal Adviser at the Public Solicitor’s Office in the Solomon Islands, and Director of the Public Defenders’ Office in Nauru, where he also briefly served as Acting Secretary for Justice.

Valenitabua was admitted to legal practice in Fiji and New South Wales in 1996.

Before entering the legal profession, he spent 16 years as a secondary school teacher in Fiji.

President Lalabalavu congratulated Valenitabua on his appointment and extended his best wishes as he takes on the responsibilities of the office.

As the Government’s principal legal adviser, the Attorney-General plays a key role in ensuring government decisions comply with Fiji’s laws and Constitution.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister Dr Lesikimacuata Korovavala, Solicitor-General Robert Green and family members.
